Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a new method of removing tattoos. It is often compared with Laser Tattoo Removal. Unlike lasers, which use a focused narrow spectrum light, IPL uses a wider beam of broad-spectrum light. This means that it has the potential to remove all colors of tattoo ink, is less dangerous and does not necessarily require an MD to administer the treatments (i.e., it will cost less).
Patients describe the treatment as a tingling sensation. As such it is less painful than laser tattoo removal. Laser treatments usually result in some blistering that must heal before the next application; Intense Pulsed Light doesn't need a recovery period.
Although the claims for IPL are promising, to date we were not able to find any before/after pictures of tattoo removal with IPL.
